As it turns out, the Prime Minister of Japan, Koizumi Junichiro, as seen in this pic I found on the web, attended the sumo tournament to award the trophy to the new Yokozuna (grand champion).

Only in Japan can the leader of the nation sit with the commoners at a huge event like this. He didn't even sit in front, he was in the 5th row (and we were in the 11th).
