This map is a magnification of Kumamoto prefecture (as apposed to Kumamoto City, which is also labeled above). Kumamoto prefecture is the red area on the small map of Japan off to the right. Within Kumamoto Prefecture is Amakusa Gun (pronounced "goon"), which is separated by the blue line. Within Amakusa Gun is Goshoura Town. Goshoura town is circled in green, and is composed of many more islands than are actually shown on this map. My island is the big (relatively) one on the bottom right within the green circle.

Here's a goofy yet surprisingly accurate map of Goshoura town. I labeled where my apartment is and my workplace (BOE = Board of Education building). The distance between these two is about a 5 minute bike ride (at a leisurely rate), if that helps to give you an idea how small these islands are.
