Me at the entrance to the castle (we didn't have time to go in).
----------------------

During the day, there was some taiko drumming as part of the festivities.
-----------------------

Before the parade started, I had my picture taken with this bear. After all, the "kuma" in Kumamoto means bear.
----------------------

Apparently this dude is a pretty famous old-school anime character.
-----------------------

Some of the JET staff to whom I am very grateful (Caroline isn't in the picture, but she helped me a lot too! THANKS!)
----------------------

What kind of festival doesn't have squid on a stick?
-----------------------

Close up of the squid on a stick. I don't think the uncooked ones on the right were for sale, but hey, who knows, it is Japan.
----------------------

Two second (or maybe third) year JETs who I watched the festival with.
-----------------------

Two giant monkeys I think.
----------------------

Giant... puffer fish?
-----------------------

Giant cell phone and girls in pleather.

Girl dancing with giant cell phone.

g
Giant Mushroom? Ok, no more giant stuff, I promise.
---------------------

They were not waving at me, this is part of the dance (they played the same song for like 2 hours straight, and it was a short song too).
-----------------------

If I had to guess, I'd say there were about 200 of these groups dancing. I didn't even see them all.
