Pictures of bugs in goshoura.
Total 22 pictures
I know there's already lots of bugs on my website, but bear with me...

These bees are bigger than they look in the picture, they're at least twice the size of a normal bee, about the size of a lighter. These are the only bugs I've seen Japanese people RUN from. Apparently a sting can kill a small child and is also very dangerous to adults too. This one got trapped in between to window panes, so I was finally able to take a picture of one.

This praying mantis was over 6 inches long.
----------------------

This moth is bigger than some of the birds here. It's wingspan was longer than a dollar bill. I was amazed when I saw him. Probably the only time you have to worry about someone taking the phrase "eat my shorts" literally.
----------------------

Another butterfly on the way up the mountain in Goshoura.
----------------------

These black ones are the biggest butterflies I've ever seen, and they're all over Japan.
----------------------

This guy was very patient when posing for me, hope this shot cancels out all the spiders you're about to see.
----------------------

This is mukade, they warned us about these things in JET orientation. Apparently, a mukade bite can be lethal to a small child, and quite harmful to adults as well. Found this guy in my sink, and after I "took care of him" I immediately went on an anti-mukade-product shopping spree.
----------------------

This is the biggest spider I've ever seen in nature (outside of a pet store). With the legs, it's a little bigger than a deck of cards. After showing them this picture, the people at the BOE still insist that it's not dangerous.
----------------------

This one looks like he's eating something.
----------------------

Another kumo (spider).
----------------------

I think this one was probably even bigger than that first one. About the size of my hand. Found him on the ceiling of the ferry ticket office in Goshoura. I was told he is also not dangerous.
----------------------

A similar one compared to a quarter (and my hand).
----------------------

Stick bug! They're big here!
----------------------

Some kind of stick/leaf bug. Kinda hard to see it, isn't it? Well, I guess that's the idea.
----------------------

This one even looks Japanese somehow. Found him dead in my apartment.
----------------------

This dude was about 6 inches long, some kind of praying mantis I think. Found him outside Tom's apartment in Itsuwa.
----------------------

A sacaeda bug on these huge pepper-looking plants I found in someone's garden.
----------------------

It doesn't really show up in the picture unfortunately, but this little guy is a really bright almost neon green color. Keychain used for reference to judge size, it's one of those standard plastic keychains, but with an awesome design (thanks Jill).
----------------------

I'm guessing this is some kind of grasshopper or cricket.
----------------------

Close up of my supervisor, Koechi-san holding the huge dead sacaeda bug.
----------------------

A whole bunch of spiderwebs. My supervisor says these black and yellow spiders are not dangerous, however I choose to remain skeptical.
